Iron Maiden
I have started to flesh out my idea now by creating artbibles using Photoshop. This have proven to be extremely useful as I can refer back to these images if I get stuck or need reference to what I can use during my blockout and concept.
For my centerpiece, I want to create a large iron maiden torture device that was used in some kind of dark ritual. Istead of the design of the iron maiden being just a normal cast iron coffin, I want to add some originality to it, by turning it into an Egyptian iron maiden. As far as I'm concerned, it was purely an European torture device, so adding hieroglyphics, ornate patterns and rich materials and colour would be quite unique.
The head of the torture device, I want to incorporate a new face, of a screaming man, except it would be more demonic, almost demented and elongated in appearance. I will need to do some research into hieroglyphics so that I can make the symbols I'm using relevent to the story I want to tell in the assets.
Decorative Piece
The story I want to tell, is of a dark ritual that took place in a tomb. The Egyptian gods Osiris and Anubis, 'God of The Underworld' and 'God of Death' would be prelevant. My idea was that there was a cult of people that would perform a dark ritual/curse that would transcend them into a monster. The iron maiden would be what they used for the main event of their ritual. I'm taking inspiration from Star Wars: Clone Wars 2003 cartoon movie, when Anakin Skywalker is going through his final trial, along with real world examples of hieroglyphics.
Architectural Element
For the composition, I was thinking of having my centerpiece, the iron maiden, against he ornate wall filled with hieroglyphics, right in the middle. Steps will lead up to the iron maiden. On both sides of the wall, there will be two large columns that support the room. I would like it to be an underground room, secret, and at night, so I could have moonlight shining through a sunroof (ironic). Infront of the iron maiden, at the base of the steps, I was thinking of having the supporting prop.
Supporting Prop
For my second prop I want to focus on, I was thinking of doing a set of copic jars that was historically used to store organs, with each head representing an Egyptian God, or a dagger/staff. If I did I staff, I was thinking of having it planted into the ground at the base of the steps leading to the iron maiden. If I choose to do the copic jars or dagger, I was thinking of modelling a relatively simple stone table. It could have some carvings in the table to make it interesting. The jars or dagger would be layed out on the table. I want these props to hint that they were used in whatever ritual happened.
